Thursday Thoughts… And A Giveaway!

Thoughts lately:

1) I’ve been working in a library – A LOT – as one of our buildings was closed for budget cuts and we’ve had to bust down one library, then re-integrate that collection into two other building libraries. I’ve been getting a little punchy and making call number jokes to myself as I inventory this week. For those of you not into call number humor, it’s the tag on the side with the F (for fiction) and the first three letters of the author’s last name. So, for example I got giggly the other day when I had picked up an F HER.

2) So it seems we may all be wiped out by a solar flare sometime in the near future. You probably know I’m pretty well set when it comes to survival techniques, but… I would really, really miss my internet. Much more than I want to admit to you right now.

3) In fact, I never wanted to be one of “those people,” but today I realized I was continuing to text while my hairdresser was leaning me back into the sink to wash my hair. And I was like, “Oh no I did. I’m HER.”

What am I giving away today? Oh… just an ARC of THE COLDEST GIRL IN COLDTOWN by Holly Black.

  1. SO EXCITED for this book!! I just read DOLL BONES in about 4 hours the past two days and it was so good.

Since I always enter the giveaways on Wednesdays and Thursdays (well, “always” for the past 2-3 weeks, anyway) I wanted to actually leave a comment this time and say THANKS! πŸ˜€ Even though I haven't won (YET–hint, hint), I always so enjoy coming to see what you've written. You ALWAYS make me laugh – without fail. (I have to say, and I hope it doesn't make me sound cruel (cough), last night I finally had a minute to read the post about how you STABBED YOUR EYEBALL and, forgive me Mindy, but I. Laughed. So. Hard. Like to the point I almost cried. You have such a way with words — I mean, you can make something as hellish as STABBING YOUR EYEBALL sound hilarious!!!)

I worked in a library for all four years of college and then for another 3-4 months before starting law school and I swear I would DREAM about the Dewey Decimal numbers!! (Yes, it was Dewey Decimal system — because it was a business school library and, well, I'm OLD.) I actually only started using my local library again about a year, year and a half ago (although I grew up basically living in the library, apparently when I was working and making money I felt like I needed to BUY every book I saw) — anyway, just started visiting the library again and I was truly lost the first time I tried to find anything. I saw books listed in the catalog like “YAF McGINNIS, M” and was like, huh?! Where are my call numbers?! I mean, it's “call *numbers*” for a reason, people, because there's supposed to be NUMBERS!! When did they decide to just make it so EASY to find a book?! πŸ˜‰

Ahh, anyway…. I just wanted to let you know I love visiting your blog and seeing what witty thing you've written for the day! Based on early reviews I've read of NaDtD, I have a feeling I'm going to be pretty shocked by how different THAT writing is from the “all fun, all the time” writing here on your blog πŸ™‚

  2. I totally know what you're talking about with the call numbers! I find the most inappropriate but funny names on the romance novels when I'm shelving. One was so bad I can't even repeat it on the internet. Thanks for doing this giveaway! I hope your eye feels better!

  3. Lisa – I finished COLDTOWN last night… stayed up WAY LATE!!

Holly – No doubt! Yeah, the blog is for the funny. The book has moments of dry humor, but… no, it's not a funny book!

Wilhelmina – Romance novels. Oh don't get me started. I get giggly. Real giggly. Punch drunk.

  4. Wil – NO – that's kind of hilarious though… I'm going to have to check that out. I'm guessing none of them say they live with their husband of 15 years and 2 cocker spaniels?
